Cancel a website ownership transfer

After starting a website ownership transfer, you may decide that the transfer should no longer continue. For example, you may have selected the wrong recipient, entered an incorrect email address, or simply changed your decision.

As long as the recipient has not yet accepted the ownership transfer, the transfer request can be cancelled.

When should you cancel an ownership transfer?

You should cancel a pending ownership transfer if:

You selected the wrong recipient.
The recipient's email address is incorrect.
You no longer want to transfer ownership.
The transfer was started by mistake.
You want to restart the transfer using different information.

Cancel a pending transfer

Open the website dashboard.
Navigate to the website ownership section.
Locate the pending ownership transfer.
Select Cancel ownership transfer.
Review the confirmation message.
Confirm the cancellation.

Once the cancellation is confirmed, the pending ownership transfer is immediately cancelled.

What happens after cancellation?

After a pending ownership transfer is cancelled:

The current owner remains the website owner.
The recipient cannot accept the cancelled invitation.
The ownership transfer link becomes invalid.
No ownership permissions are changed.
The website continues to operate normally.

Can you create a new transfer later?

Yes.

Cancelling an ownership transfer does not prevent you from creating another transfer request later.

You can immediately start a new ownership transfer if you want to invite a different user or correct previously entered information.

If the recipient has already accepted

Once the recipient accepts the ownership transfer, the transfer is complete and can no longer be cancelled.

If ownership needs to be returned, the new website owner must start a new ownership transfer back to the previous owner or another eligible website user.
