Transfer website ownership

You can transfer ownership of an Art Schema website when another person needs to become primarily responsible for managing it.

Transferring ownership changes which account has the highest level of control over the website. Because this is a sensitive administrative action, Art Schema requires verification from the current owner and acceptance from the intended recipient.

Before you transfer ownership

Before starting an ownership transfer, make sure that:

You are the current owner of the website.
You are signed in to the correct Art Schema account.
The intended recipient is someone you trust.
The recipient’s email address is correct.
You understand that the recipient will become the new website owner after accepting the transfer.

A website can have only one owner at a time.

Start an ownership transfer

Open the website dashboard.
Go to the website ownership or user management section.
Select the option to transfer website ownership.
Choose or enter the user who should become the new owner.
Review the ownership transfer information carefully.
Submit the ownership transfer request.

Submitting the form does not immediately transfer the website.

Art Schema first sends a verification code to the email address associated with the current owner’s account.

Verify the ownership transfer request

After starting the transfer, you must verify that you requested the ownership change.

Open the verification email sent by Art Schema.
Copy the verification code from the email.
Return to the ownership transfer verification page.
Enter the verification code.
Confirm the request.

The verification code is valid for a limited period. If it expires, you may need to request a new code or restart the transfer process.

Verifying the request authorizes Art Schema to send an ownership transfer invitation to the intended recipient. It does not complete the transfer by itself.

What the recipient receives

After the current owner verifies the request, Art Schema sends an ownership transfer invitation to the intended recipient.

The invitation includes a secure link that allows the recipient to review and accept the transfer.

The recipient may need to sign in to an existing Art Schema account or create an account using the invited email address before accepting the transfer.

While the transfer is pending

The current owner continues to own and control the website until the recipient accepts the ownership transfer.

While the request is pending:

The current owner retains ownership-specific permissions.
The recipient does not yet own the website.
The website continues to operate normally.
The transfer can be completed only by the intended recipient.
The pending transfer may be cancelled before it is accepted.

Completing the ownership transfer

The ownership transfer is completed only after the intended recipient opens the invitation and accepts the request.

After acceptance:

The recipient becomes the new website owner.
The previous owner loses ownership-specific permissions.
The website remains active and its content and settings are preserved.
Existing website users and their access remain unchanged unless separately updated.

The previous owner may remain connected to the website as a regular website user, depending on the access assigned during the transfer process.

If the recipient does not accept

If the recipient does not accept the invitation, ownership does not change.

The current owner continues to own the website until the transfer is accepted, cancelled, or expires.

If the invitation expires, the current owner can start a new ownership transfer request.

Cancel a pending ownership transfer

A pending ownership transfer can be cancelled before the intended recipient accepts it.

After cancellation:

The current owner remains the website owner.
The existing invitation can no longer be used.
A new transfer request can be created later.

Security recommendations

Before transferring ownership:

Confirm the recipient’s identity.
Check the recipient’s email address for typing errors.
Never forward the verification code to another person.
Do not accept or verify a transfer request that you did not initiate.
Cancel the request immediately if the recipient or email address is incorrect.
